Introduction

The following quick start guide provides background information about the LX2162A SOM based SolidNET DPU product from hardware perspective.

The features are -

  1. LX2162A SOM - LX2162A SOM Hardware User Manual Includes the heart of the system - Processor, DDR4 memories (up to 32GByte with ECC), eMMC, SPI flash, RTC controller and power management.

  2. PCIe x8 Gen3 gold fingers - The main edge connector interface for a standard server motherboard.

  3. TI retimer - A dual channel 25Gbps / 10Gbps retimer to enable long reach when using a DAC SFP28 cable

  4. Dual SFP28 (25Gbps and 10Gbps capable) connectors - connected to the LX2162A SD1 SERDES #2 and #3 (dpmac.5 and dpmac.6).

  5. 1Gbps RJ45 connector - A fully functional 1Gbps Ethernet port connected to LX2162A dpmac.17 via on-SOM phy. Typically used for out-of-band management.

  6. Two bi-color LEDs - Those are GPIO controlled LEDs that can be used for link and activity indications

  7. Fan header - standard 4 pin fan header that provides 12V, GND and Tachometer for sensing an active fan RPM.

  8. Reset button - Mainly used for development, resets the LX2162A SOM. Notice that this will reset the PCIe endpoint that is typically connected to a host system.

  9. Boot selet DIP switch - Can choose to boot from SD-card (typically used for development), on SOM eMMC or on SOM 64MByte SPI flash.

  10. Micro SD slot on the back of the card - typically used for development. For production it is recommended to either use the SPI flash or eMMC, or both.

  11. Soldered RTC battery on the back of the card - This is a soldered 3.3v battery that is connected to the RTC conotroller on the SOM (Microchip MCP7940NT-I/ST part number).

  12. Micro USB connector on the back of the card - Typically used for development. Use a standard USB type A to micro USB to connect to the card. On the card there is an FTDI FT23x device that is connected to LX2162A UART for console.
    Notice that the default UART console needs to be set in the virtual terminal emulator as 115200bps 8N1 with disabled HW and SW flow control

  13. DC-DC programming header - This header is solely used by SolidRun for manufacturing purposes.

 

Boot Select

Before powering up the board for the first time it is recommended to select the boot media. In order to configure the boot media, please refer to the following DIP switch:

The following shows how to set the switches on the boot source selector. In this case booting from the micro SD is selected (DIP switches 2,3,4 are ON)

LED GPIO Controls

The top bi-color LED, near the RJ45 connector can be controlled via GPIOs <TBD>,<TBD>

The bottom bi-color LED, near the dual SFP28 connector can be controlled via GPIOs <TBD>,<TBD>

Accessories

Following are accessories to the LX2162A SolidNET DPU -

Half Height and Full Height Brackets

The mechanical kit SolidRun P/N MCH00369 includes a half height and full height brackets with two screws to hold one of them to the LX2162A SolidNET PCB. Following are two illustration pictures -

The two screws are defined as M2.5 x 4mm

Active Heatsink

The mechanical kit SolidRun P/N MCH00344 is an active heatsink that is an aluminium based with air tunnels defined by lexan sticker built to cool down the LX2162A processor and peripherals.

The fan being used in this design is a Delta 50x50x10 blower fan part number - BFB0512HHA-CF00. Following is an illustration picture -
