Our IMX6 Products have the ability to boot a system with a dumb terminal on a serial port as a console. This configuration is useful for developers who want to debug the kernel or device drivers.
According to this Google+ post, the The UART is 3.3V, so the USB→UART cable needs to be compatible with 3.3V, not 5V. Adapter cable only needed with HummingBoardwith HummingBoard. Here can you find more information about the HummingBoard Base/Pro GPIOs.
